Craft beer is still growing nationwide at a tremendous rate and the Minneapolis area is one of the fastest growing in the country. Fulton Brewery has been a favorite among many locals in our territory.  Minneapolis is no different, Fulton Brewery is seeing explosive growth in their hometown. Fulton Brewery’s passion and dedication to the craft beer scene is contagious. This passion translates into their growth regionally and locally.

Another, reason for Fulton’s growth is their focus on high quality beers. This became evident after winning their first medal at the Great American Beer Festival for Fulton Lonely Blonde in the fall of 2015. The accolades have continued to come in showcasing Fulton’s dedication; The Growler Magazine, The Taste Test: Blind-Tasting 53 Minnesota IPAs.  Fulton took home the Best in Show as the number one ranked Minnesota IPA.  Paste Magazine recently did a blind taste test of the top IPAs in the United States; 247 of the Best American IPAs, Blind-Tasted and Ranked.  Fulton Brewery was #34 over-all and the top rated Minnesota IPA in their tasting.

Samuel Adams Octoberfest is one of the largest seasonal beer offerings in the world and the largest Oktoberfest beer in the world. Samuel Adams Octoberfest has a 27% share of the fall seasonal segment, significantly more than any other fall seasonal brand.

It’s hard to think about but cool fall weather is just around the corner. I look forward to Bison tailgating and NFL Sunday’s with a Märzen style beer more than the weather.  As the leaves turn amber to copper color so does the beer in my glass. This color of beer is reminiscent of traditional styles of Okotberfest Beer or Märzen style. We have several brands of Oktoberfest beers to choose from, traditional Paulaner Wiesn to the number one selling Oktoberfest in the world Samuel Adams. I’ve attached a list above and below that contains the multitude of Oktoberfest & Pumpkin beers that we have available this fall.

Below is a description of this style of beer courtesy of Beeradvocate.com

Märzen / Oktoberfest

Description:
Before refrigeration, it was nearly impossible to brew beer in the summer due to the hot weather and bacterial infections. Brewing ended with the coming of spring, and began again in the fall. Most were brewed in March (Märzen). These brews were kept in cold storage over the spring and summer months, or brewed at a higher gravity, so they’d keep. Märzenbier is full-bodied, rich, toasty, typically dark copper in color with a medium to high alcohol content.

The common Munich Oktoberfest beer served at Wies’n (the location at which Munich celebrates its Oktoberfest) contains roughly 5.0-6.0% alcohol by volume, is dark/copper in color, has a mild hop profile and is typically labeled as a Bavarian Märzenbier in style.

Average alcohol by volume (abv) range: 4.0-7.0%

NEW!!!!  LAGUNITAS 12th of Never Ale

Tropically Hoppy. Light, yet Full-Bodied. Bright and Citrusy. Word.

The magical, mystical 12th of Never is a blend of Old and New School hops that play bright citrus, rich coconut, and papaya-esque flavors, all on a solid stage of English puffed wheat. Tropically hoppy. Light, yet full-bodied. Bright and citrusy. The 12th of Never Ale is everything we’ve learned about making hop-forward beer expressed in a moderate voice.  Pale, cold, slightly alcoholic and bitter.  It’s all we know.

These 12oz mini-kegs (AKA cans) are an exciting new option for us, and we are stoopid stoked at the opportunity for y’all to take us to all those new, nelophobic locations…

And then at the very moment that the lands beyond the River Styx froze over, as the last pig took flight, as the last  winged monkey departed the darkly fragrant netherlands, when wishes become horses and all of the beggars rode, when a moon rose newly blued on the morning of the 12th of never, and the second to last craft brewery in America pressed the green button on their canning line. We wanted be the Last Small Brewer in the U.S. to can their beer and maybe by now we are…

Lagunitas 12th of Never is – surprise, surprise – a hop forward beer. Described as a “bitter-esque, pale-isa ale”. As we sit here drinking it for the first time, it truly is damn hop forward, walking a fine line between pale ale and IPA, kind of beer. A truly tasty beer for this nearly 100 degree start to the summer. Fans of Lagunitas Brewing’s bold hop flavor will be quite happy with this release year-round. Founder, Beer Street Journal.

basecamp

We are excited to introduce you to a new brand at Bergseth Bros. Base Camp Brewing Company from the heart of Portland, Oregon’s brewery district. Ryan and I had the opportunity to meet with Base Camp Brewing Company at the Craft Beer Conference in Portland.  We were blown away with their detail to crafting consistent quality brews.  We are confident that you will agree with your first sip of their beer.

BS 2

The Base Camp family has grown a bit since we first opened our doors.  Our crew represents decades of work in the brewing industry and a common love for life here in the Pacific Northwest.  When we make the time to get out of the brewery, you can find our team out having fun.  Whether we’re in the water off Short Sands Beach, setting up camp on the Wonderland Trail, slashing pow turns in the Outback on Bachelor, or drifting a line out in the Umpqua we are proud to live, work, and play in the Pacific Northwest.

BS 4

We care about the consistency, quality, and freshness of our beers.  Our choice of packaging helps ensure that each brew is representative of this.  Whether you’re popping open one of our bad-ass aluminum 22oz bottles, cracking into a pack of 12oz cans, or tapping a Base Camp keg, you can expect a beer made with exacting care and extraordinary effort.

The wait is over…..Grain Belt BLU has arrived to our market for the first time ever!!! This is a draught ONLY product and very limited. This follows Grain Belt Lock & Dam as the newest product introduced this year from the Friendly Beer Company.

Grain Belt Blu, a summery spin on the iconic “Friendly Beer,” combines Grain Belt Premium with a generous load of real blueberries. It would be a mistake, however, to associate the beer with a sweet, syrupy blueberry pie dessert. On the contrary, Grain Belt Blu is light, balanced, and refreshing—a delightfully subtle twist on the classic American lager.

Lock & Dam is a copper lager with a crisp flavor profile. At launch Lock & Dam will be available in six-packs and 12-packs of 12oz bottles, as well as kegs.

“Grain Belt got its start right here on the Mississippi, powered by St. Anthony Falls and the dam,” said Ted Marti, president and fifth-generation descendant of brewery founder, August Schell. “We are proud to honor that heritage with a brew inspired by the place and hardworking people who gave us our start.”

beer-bbq-fest-june14

Summer certainly kicked into over-drive this weekend and the smell of barbecuing foods wafted through the air.  In fact, I enjoyed a hamburger with sautéed jalapeños paired with Lagunitas IPA. The IPA turned up the heat on the jalapeños, if you wanted to tone down the spiciness; Fargo Brewing Company Stone’s Throw would have been a good choice. The sweetness of the malt would contrast with the spiciness of the jalapeños, balancing out the flavors.

With Rib Fest, one of Fargo’s most attended events of the summer wrapping up this past weekend.  I thought it would be fitting to pair some beers with pork ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket. Finding the right beer to balance the flavors and spiciness of barbecue may seem over-whelming but beer is the perfect companion to whatever you’re barbecuing. The three most common ways to pair beer with any food is contrast, complement or cut.

Most barbecue sauces are a combo of sweet and acidic, sugar and vinegar, in one form or another with sauces ranging from mild to intense spiciness. Fortunately, beer’s carbonation cuts through barbecue’s fire and spice while refreshing and recharging the palate. At the same time, its complexity can complement the layers of flavor in any slab of meat.

I wanted to focus on a brewery relatively close to our homes; August Schell’s Brewing Company located in New Ulm, Minnesota. If you have not visited this beautiful and historic brewery put it on your 2016 summer bucket list!

I added two videos below that I felt were great to share. The first one comes from the most recent accolade August Schell’s Brewing Company recently won at the 2016 World Beer Cup in Philadelphia. The second video is a little dated but showcases the unique history of the brewery that started in 1860.

1866

August Schell Brewing Company, 1866

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Out of 6,600 entries, four Minnesota beers have been named among the best in the world. They won the titles as part of 2016 World Beer Cup in Philadelphia.

August Schell’s Brewing Company won silver for its Vienna-style lager called “Firebrick.” The New Ulm-based brewery says it has a “subtle maltiness combined with a hint of hoppy taste.” Firebrick took home the Gold Medal in the same category in 2014.

Boston Brewery Hop Garden

I hope you had a great weekend – It was crazy around the Fargo Moorhead area this weekend with the running of the Fargo Marathon. We’ve finally had a few days in a row peaking above 70 with sun, of which, always helps beer sales.

This week I wanted to touch base on a program that I’d love to see as many accounts as possible support because it’s for such a great cause.  The name of the program is “Pour One Forward” from Samuel Adams. How does the program work?  It’s simple buy a keg of Samuel Adams Boston Lager and let the Pour One Forward program sell it for you while donating to a great cause! This program would be excellent for Growler stations as well “Pour a Growler Forward” – you’ll make a Veteran’s day for sure with a full growler of Boston Lager.

Please read the information below and contact your Bergseth Bros. Representative to take part in this program!

POF_Blog_2-300x225

At Samuel Adams we show our gratitude to one another for a job well done with a cold beer and a heartfelt “thank you.” Starting today, we’re partnering with local bars and restaurants to salute our military friends who protect our freedom and independence every day through a program called Pour One Forward.

Between now and July 5, at participating locations, you can purchase two Samuel Adams Boston Lagers and leave one behind to be enjoyed by an active duty soldier or vet. You simply tell your server you’d like to “Pour One Forward” and he or she will give you a paper pint glass to write a note of thanks or special shout out to your favorite soldier or our military at large. Your server will hang it on the wall and when a soldier or vet comes in to that bar or restaurant, they can pull it down and exchange it for a cold pint of Boston Lager

POF_Instagram_2-ADU

And here at Sam Adams, we also want to help! If you post a picture of your thank you note and tag it #PourOneForward, Sam Adams will donate $1 to the nonprofit American Dream U to help soldiers find jobs they are really passionate about or start their own business as they transition from active duty to civilian life.

We recently learned that in the last 5 years, more than one million young soldiers returned to civilian life in search of fulfilling careers they are passionate about; and 50% said that the transition was much more difficult that imagined. Inspired by our core philanthropic program, Brewing the American Dream, which helps small business owners start, strengthen and grow their craft food and beverage businesses, we wanted to connect soldiers with that same kind of inspiration and support.

POF_Instagram_3-ADU-1024x768

Every day, countless men and women put their early career aspirations aside to defend the values that define our country. We hope you’ll salute and thank them in the best of ways! Click here to find participating restaurants and bars (list updates almost every day as we add new locations) and get involved!
